Woodworking is for me still a hobby. I still have big plans for woodworking as a profession, but that next commission is still somewhere in the future. I have given up on the proposal I had pending with a client for a bookcase, and I have nothing else pending right now (professionally that is - I have a ton of woodworking projects for my home: finish my new workbench, start renovating a bedroom side table, and then begin the dining room coffered ceiling project). I'm not complaining, because I am not sure I am ready for the woodworking big show - stepping into the big leagues as a professional woodworker.MY BACK HURTS!
One of the things that gives me pause is the fact that after just three hours of woodworking today, my back hurts. It was three hours of frantic work - barely stopping to even sit down more than a few minutes. I don't know how the pros do it: standing at a workbench all day long, running boards through a table saw all day long, and even worse: sanding all day long. Yikes! For sure, I could do some things to help my situation like back exercises (I do them from time to time), mattes for my concrete shop floor and taking longer breaks, but if I were to do woodworking full time, I would be at my workbench twice as long as I was today.
So, I have my work cut out for me. Before I can become a pro woodworker, I have to get my back in shape. Wish me luck, now where are those pain pills...
